As a single mum, juggling a business and the needs of my two young children is hard enough…Sunday night : BAM !! The news of the possibility to the highest level of restrictions hit me! Along with some personal events which have re-awakened stress and insecurity, I feel tension building and I feel exhausted, lost and lonely… and a slight panic, not knowing if I can handle a second lock down…

Can you relate? Those moments when you feel overwhelmed, when you feel like it is just too much? Wondering when peace and joy will finally be there again?

BUT, you know what? You are in the lead! You are the one who can create that space and turn the situation around! And if you can do it for your personal life, you can do it for your business too!… And I know it may sound so intangible, so far away at times…So let me share with you what I did (and teach my clients to do) to allow that window to open up again and let in that ray of sunlight!

What story is your body telling you?

When I am hit by life happening, hit by adversity and the whirlwind of events over which I don’t seem to have control, I feel my body tightening, my head starts spinning, restless, not able to find any solution…What are for you physical signs indicating stress and overwhelm? These are the first signs important to notice, you don’t need to do anything, just be aware of your body signaling!  When you allow your body to ‘tell you’ what is happening, you create an anchor for your spirit to remain in the present moment, instead of ‘taking off and spinning around’.

Each situation is unique and requires a different response to bounce back from adversity. Only in the NOW you are able to calm down and find solutions. The body is patient and has a tremendous capacity to ‘stock’ information, events, emotions, etc. The more you get used to listening to its subtle whispering (before it starts seriously screaming), the faster you will be able to take the right action and make change happen. Make your body your great ally and the physical awareness awakens the reality check to bounce back.

Take the time to really feel what is happening, you don’t need to have a solution straight away. Can you bear the ‘not knowing’? A great support to remain present is to write down without control and awaken as many senses as you can:

  • What do you feel? Is it hard, soft…
  • What do you hear? Hard, loud…
  • What do you smell? What does this smell remind you of?
  • What do you see? Which colors?

What is the invitation?

In each situation there is a hidden lesson, an opportunity to grow, if you are open to receiving it. Now look at the situation you are currently in: on a deeper level, what is it inviting you to? Is this a pattern you recognize? You only need to be aware of what is happening, observe, without judgement. Observing will allow new insights to surface without you needing to take any action.

Opening the window of change

Once you have created this safe space in which you are present and observe it is time to move on and create that window in which you ae not feeling overwhelmed and situations can turn around. Ask the question: ‘What will create movement?’ When nothing happens, don’t worry, don’t get upset, but simply investigate where you are getting stuck: ‘What is not allowed to happen?’  When you allow time to sit with these kind of questions you allow yourself to shift from the victim to taking ownership of the situation. This is the space where the ‘magic’ happens.

Once I had applied these steps for myself, I knew what I had to do, focus and clarity were back, allowing me to bounce back from adversity and to pick life up where I had left it. Against all odds I realized that rather than loosing, I had gained: clarity, focus and time! Instead of losing momentum in my business I created a new situation on which I can build.
