Self-mastery and total holistic wellbeing are only possible when you fairly nourish your body, mind and soul. I used to believe health and wellness was all about correct nutrition. Partly due to my background in nutritional therapy, no doubt, but I was convinced it was simply healthy eating, nutritional supplements and incorporating exercise into our daily regime. But I was missing the bigger picture. This approach focused mainly on physical and mental/emotional health, but it neglected to address complete transformation and self-mastery. Surely true wellness should be measured according to how happy, healthy, and vital we are in every moment of our existence?
For much of my life, I’ve struggled with self-doubt, fears and self-sabotage. My diet was great but while I felt good physically, I was lacking fulfilment on an emotional and spiritual level. I felt stuck and frustrated, with no idea where I was going, and it was obvious to me that my negative thought patterns and limiting beliefs were holding me back. I wanted answers but wasn’t entirely sure where to look.
I’ve since come to learn that:
There is no separation between mind, body, and spirit – they are intimately connected.
We are NOT our thoughts, emotions or beliefs, or the attachments we place upon them. This is our ego and we CAN learn to manage it.
It’s often our most difficult challenges that become our greatest learning experiences and opportunities for growth.
Among the good times in my life, there have been others where I’ve felt painfully stretched and tested. I lost my dad to cancer while learning to cope with my mum’s dementia, and then, only fourteen months later, my younger brother was killed in an accident. More recently, my husband of 33 years had his own battle with cancer, and while I’m not going to lie, this latest challenge had me on my knees, it also taught me more than ever, the importance of self-care and nourishing the body, mind, and soul.
If you’re yearning for any kind of transformation, I encourage you to acknowledge where you are first, without judgement or blame. You may well need to work on releasing limiting beliefs of your own, but acceptance as a first step is empowering. It gives you permission to move forwards and release any need to beat yourself up for anything you perceive to have failed at, or are not worthy of. Those feelings of not being good enough, slim enough, or successful enough, for example. Blame, fear and judgement are all low vibrational energies and will only serve to keep you stuck. This is playing to your ego that will do anything in its power to hold you back and keep you well within your comfort zone. Unfortunately, transformation doesn’t happen here! Accepting things as they are doesn’t mean you have to like it, but it will make it clearer to you what changes need to be made for you to step into your power.
You then need to get really clear on what you want. Is it better health? Personal or business success? More money? Peace and fulfilment? Or all of the above? And why not! Just be clear your goals are personal to you. We often waste so much of our life trying to fit in, or do what is expected of us, that we lose sight of our dreams. Your life purpose will be entirely different from someone else’s and YOU have unique gifts and talents to share.
Once you’ve accepted where you are and know where you want to be, you can better appreciate what adjustments you’ll need to make to get from A to B. If losing weight is your main goal, for example, then addressing your diet, taking some exercise, and, almost certainly, working on your mindset will be key. But always remember. Body. Mind. Soul.
How can you nourish your body, mind, and soul?
I believe there are several important areas to consider: diet, mindset, meditation, expressing gratitude, forgiveness, being out in nature, spending time with animals, personal reflection, and movement. I also encourage the use of affirmations, visualisation, EFT (tapping), ThetaHealing®, pure essential oils, and angel work.
is your foundation on which to build. Your brain depends on a second by second supply of nutrients to function effectively, after all. The better nourished you are, the better you’ll feel, think and behave, and the more productive you’ll be. By contrast, if your diet is rich in processed foods, ready meals, sugar, stimulants and alcohol, the more sluggish you’ll feel, your mental health could suffer, and you’ll be far more likely to succumb to ill health. Also, from a spiritual perspective, these are low vibration foods, as are meat and dairy products. Healthy, vital whole foods, fruits and vegetables, on the other hand, are nutrient-dense, high vibration foods and should form the basis of your diet.
It’s important to understand that mindset can play a big part when it comes to making food choices, so it’s worth considering your relationship with food. It’s not about getting it right 100% of the time, but making a lifestyle choice. But by focusing on healthier food options it’ll help you transform from the inside out, and you’ll feel empowered and motivated.
Set a Positive Intention
at the beginning of each day and make a note of 3-5 things you’re grateful for. Not only will you raise your energetic vibration when you express gratitude (which makes you feel great), but you’ll shift the energy around you to a higher vibration too, and attract even more things to be thankful for. Where your attention goes, your energy flows, which means you get what you focus on. If this is constantly about what’s wrong in your life, you’ll attract more of the same, whereas, if you concentrate on the good and express thanks, transformation and miracles are yours for the taking!
is so important for nourishing the mind, body, and soul. It has many proven benefits, like lowering blood pressure, reducing stress and anxiety, and improving insomnia but it also helps you connect to your higher self and be present in the moment. This in turn allows you to step off the hamster wheel of life, if only fleetingly. Incorporate it as part of your daily routine, ideally first thing in the morning before your mind gets busy with the tasks of the day. And if you’re too busy and don’t have time to meditate? Then it’s even more important to find the time! Regular meditators are found to be more focused and productive, so imagine the time you could potentially clawback if it became a habit of yours!
If you’re after transformation and self-mastery, total holistic wellbeing, be prepared for the long haul, and to work on yourself daily. Life is a journey, not a destination. I’m still a work in progress but for the first time in my life, using the tools and techniques I’ve mentioned, I feel a sense of purpose, and as though I’ve finally stepped into my power. And YOU can too.
