Interview with International Mindset and Personal Branding Expert Raluca Ioana Man

In a volatile, uncertain, complex, hyperconnected and ambiguous world, where everything is constantly moving, each one of us must adapt and find resources to accept and implement change.  Learning through failures is having an approach that believes in adapting to change, to bring in consistent improvement. A healthy attitude, an open mindset are instrumental in learning to continually improve your ability to attain milestones in life.

We reached out to international Mindset and Personal Branding Expert Raluca Ioana Man to learn about the role of your mood and emotions in activating a healthy mindset and change your life.

We all heard that now is “A time for change ” but what is the role of your mood and mindset to activate a healthy mindset and change your life?

Key to our existence, the human brain is the command center of the human nervous system and controls central functions like language, mood, memory, vision, personality and motor skills. What is the role of modelling your mood to change your life? 

There are times when no matter how prepared and easily adaptable you are, things will take you by surprise, like this pandemic, that changed the way we react, the way we see things, the way we do things. Like any human, you have emotions that influence you in certain moments, situations. Research showed that the emotion center is the oldest part of the human brain and this major primordial brain network determines your frame of mind. 

Your mood is extremely important and influences the way you think and view the world. Your mood is influenced by events in your life, hormones, weather, the amount of sleep you get, the food we eat, the way you take care of your body.

What can you do to change your mood? Can you model your mood?

HAVE A HEALTHY MINDSET. Mindset is everything. Is no secret that mindset can make a huge difference in so many areas of your life: business, relationships, success, personal, confidence and self-confidence, but I can’t stress enough the role of a healthy mindset especially in personal branding and reputation management. You may know and want change, but from wanting to really implementing there is a long way. It is not easy to accept that you need improvement, or that you need to work on your traits and habits.

You can start by asking yourselves different questions: Why do I have to change? How can I become the best version of myself ? What is my purpose? 

A research published in the journal “Current Biology” by scientists at the University of Glasgow suggests that there are four basic emotions: happiness, sadness, fear and anger, changing the commonly held belief, proposed first by Dr. Paul Ekman that there are six basic emotions, universally recognized and easily interpreted: happiness, sadness, fear, anger, surprise and disgust. 

Not surprisingly, more than often you allow negative emotions to control your mood instead of being led by positive emotions. But can you decide your mood?  Actually only you have the power to work on your mindset and change your mood. Once you become more open to changes, to new things and embrace a new perspective on different things, you can learn to be optimistic and have a positive, winning attitude toward life in general. This is why it is so crucial to have a healthy mindset. 

A healthy mindset knows no borders: it doesn’t matter where you are coming from, what your religion is, the color of your skin or your gender. You have the power to become a better person and brand yourself as a winner. Compete no one! This is a personal quest to successfully become the best version of yourself. You and your ego are your biggest competitors! Once you realize that, you are already a winner!

Changing your life is a deliberate choice to activate a healthy mindset

Your experience is filled with success stories on Personal Branding. How do you define Personal Branding?

Personal branding is a deliberate, conscious effort to create and influence your self perception and position yourself as an authority in your field, elevating your visibility, and making yourself available to the people who need you.

Creating a personal brand is a tall order and facing this epic task alone, could let doubts creeping in, ruining your previous efforts. Knowing where to start is the first step.

Oprah Winfrey started small on a local show before becoming the epitome of personal branding, making her voice heard and influencing generations of women worldwide.

Where do you start?

If you are not sure where to start, I give you the RSEVEN’s steps for the first stage of your Personal Branding journey. The most important thing right now is to take the first step.

Start by making a personal SWOT Analysis. Analyze your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. Be open and honest. It’s important to write everything down and understand yourself. Learn and use your strengths, work on your weaknesses, realize the opportunities you may have and last. but not least, confront, avoid, or deflect your threats. Do you know that you can transform threats into opportunities and weaknesses into strengths?

Focus and Rhythm. Focus on your most difficult tasks during your most productive cycles; complete the less mentally intensive tasks during the 20 minutes lulls. To find your rhythm: create a log where you can score on a scale from 1 to 10 your focus, energy levels and motivation for every working hour, every day, for the following 3 weeks.; after 3 weeks, review your log and find out which times of the day are your most productive ones.)

Learn to say NO. Learn to decline requests from others. Sometimes, the best time-saver of all is the word NO. Learning how to decline a request without damaging a relationship is a learnable skill. 

Develop Self-esteem.  Develop realistic goals and set out to achieve them, one day at a time. Good self-esteem does not come from others telling you how wonderful you are. It comes from trusting yourself and your ability to accomplish what you set out to do. Feeling good about yourself requires action on your part. 

Nourish your mind. Practice mindfulness exercises, Pranayama, yoga, meditation, engage in creative, stimulating mental activities (word games, puzzles, chess and strategy games, reading, taking cold showers, so on)

Eisenhower Matrix: developed by the 34th US President, Dwight D. Eisenhower, the Eisenhower Matrix allows you to create a system of prioritizing the most important tasks so that they do not get lost to the sudden, unexpected tasks that always seem to arise out of nowhere. The idea is that all your tasks can be sorted into four quadrants, with axes of “important” and “urgent”. These 4 quadrants are given number values from 1 to 4, based on their priorities. For example: family, health, learning and fitness.

Self-love. Love is the most powerful emotion. If you really love and care about others, you have to love and take care of yourself first. Self-love is the vital process of exploring your human potential to become a powerful and fulfilled woman. 

Embracing a mentality that believes in adapting to change is about learning through life lessons and allowing consistent growth. Attaining your next milestone, both in business and life is a matter of a healthy mindset. What is the difference between “Doing” and “Being” Healthy? 

Practicing a healthy mindset is actually ‘Doing Healthy’ and having a healthy mindset is about “Being Healthy’. Fostering a healthy mindset culture in your family and your business is like being an athlete before the Olympics- it requires an ongoing process of driving change in behavioral norms to develop a healthy mindset. These steps I mentioned are designed to introduce a healthy mindset and show you how modelling your mood and emotions could activate a healthy mindset to change your life.
